Letter to reporter/editor
Feel free to use (or cut and paste from) this template and add your information to the space between the brackets. You may want to tailor the letter to your own community and its experiences. If you know the interests of the person to whom you are writing, include stories or issues that will catch the attention of that person. Dear [name of reporter/editor]: An award-winning trilogy of documentary films were produced by Oscar nominated filmmaker Dorothy Fadiman: FROM the BACK ALLEYS to the SUPREME COURT & BEYOND, (co-produced with PBS station KTEH-TV), which focuses on the history and meaning of abortion rights. On [date], [name
one or more of the videos] will be broadcast on Channel [xx]
at [time].
Because we feel that the Trilogy will have a profound impact on the way people feel about and understand abortion in this country, [name of your organization] is planning to hold [describe the event, i.e. a pre-broadcast screening/hold a series of gatherings in homes/other event that night, or another night]. The Trilogy spans more than a century. WHEN ABORTION WAS ILLEGAL
documents the back-alley days, dating from the mid-1800's. FROM DANGER
to DIGNITY chronicles the fight to change the laws and profiles underground
networks created to provide safe illegal abortions. THE FRAGILE PROMISE
of CHOICE takes an unflinching look at where we are now, twenty-seven
years after the Supreme Court decision in the case of Roe v. Wade.
Participants who were on the front lines during the pre-Roe days, as well
as those actively involved now, speak candidly about their experiences.
Intimate interviews with physicians, legislators, clergy, women who went
to the back-alleys, and others who lived through those years of criminalized
abortion elevate the discussion of abortion from the divisively political
to the personal. These films have garnered numerous awards including an
Academy
Award nomination, an Emmy, and the CPB Gold Medal for Best
Documentary. The films in this Trilogy have been praised for transcending
rhetoric in order to focus on the human dimension of the abortion issue.
Sincerely,
|
