FROM the BACK-ALLEYS to the SUPREME COURT & BEYOND The Spanish Language Outreach Project HOW to INVOLVE YOUR COMMUNITY Our resource guide presents information about how you can set up screenings and events. The guide is available free on the Concentric Media web site. Here are a few suggestions to ensure good attendance and successful follow-up afterward.
If your event is open to the public, INVITE A WIDE SPECTRUM OF HUMAN RIGHTS/SOCIAL JUSTICE GROUPS (see list of sponsors for a recent event below). The screening described below attracted nearly 600 people. Following the screening, 200 audience members signed up to become active in reproductive rights activities. GET OUT THE WORD OUT EARLY. Mail, email, fax, call, etc. at least six weeks in advance of the event to ensure good attendance. START A MAILING LIST WITH CONTACT INFORMATION OF ATTENDEES. If audience members are reached soon after the event, they are often interested in making contributions of time, money or other kinds of support for your organization.
CALIFORNIA PREMIERE of
A large public screening of the three videos took place in Sacramento, CA. California Abortion Rights League's Women of Color Organizing Project sponsored this free event. Keynote speakers included Dolores Huerta (co-founder United Farm Workers, AFL-CIO), along with Hispanic legislators and other elected officials. CARAL recognizes that women of color historically have not been included in the mainstream women's health movements, despite the fact that they are among the most severely affected by legislation restricting access to reproductive health services. Screenings such as these encourage participation. CO-SPONSORS of the Event / CO-PATROCINADORES
